چکیده
Whole-ArmUltrasound to Rule Out Suspected Upper-Extremity DeepVenous Thrombosis in Outpatients Upper-extremity deep venous thrombosis (UE-DVT) accounts for approximately 14% of all cases of DVT.1 Because UE-DVTmayprovokepulmonary embolism (PE), prompt diagnosis is necessary to select the patients who require anticoagulation. This study aimed to evaluate the failure rate of ultrasonographic screening for UE-DVT.

Suspected Upper-extremity Deep Vein Thrombosis
Upper-extremity venous thrombosis often presents as unilateral arm swelling. The differential diagnosis includes lesions compressing the veins and causing a functional venous obstruction, venous stenosis, an infection causing edema, obstruction of previously functioning lymphatics, or the absence of sufficient lymphatic channels to ensure effective drainage. The following recommendations are ma...
متن کاملSerial 2-point ultrasonography plus D-dimer vs whole-leg color-coded Doppler ultrasonography for diagnosing suspected symptomatic deep vein thrombosis: a randomized controlled trial.
CONTEXT Patients with suspected deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the lower extremities are usually investigated with ultrasonography either by the proximal veins (2-point ultrasonography) or the entire deep vein system (whole-leg ultrasonography). The latter approach is thought to be better based on its ability to detect isolated calf vein thrombosis; however, it requires skilled operators and is ...

متن کاملEmergency department diagnosis of upper extremity deep venous thrombosis using bedside ultrasonography
A 27-year-old man presents to the emergency department with a 1-day history of severe right upper extremity pain and swelling. The patient's status is post open reduction internal fixation for a left tibial plateau fracture, which was complicated by methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus osteomyelitis. A peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line was subsequently placed for intrave...
متن کاملEvaluation of D-dimer in the diagnosis of suspected deep-vein thrombosis.
BACKGROUND Several diagnostic strategies using ultrasound imaging, measurement of D-dimer, and assessment of clinical probability of disease have proved safe in patients with suspected deep-vein thrombosis, but they have not been compared in randomized trials. METHODS Outpatients presenting with suspected lower-extremity deep-vein thrombosis were potentially eligible. Using a clinical model, ...
